This MA seminar is offered jointly at the University of Lausanne and Lancaster University (UK). The English Lake District and Swiss Lac Léman are two of the most important locations for the development of British and European Romanticism. Some of the most influential writers of the era, such as William and Dorothy Wordsworth, Samuel T. Coleridge, Byron, Percy and Mary Shelley, found inspiration in these locations. We will read some of their works about and on these locations.
The course is organized in three parts:
During our stay in Grasmere and the Léman region we'll discover texts and sites with MA students from Lancaster University and Prof. Simon Bainbridge and Jeff Cowton, curator at the Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere.
With many thanks to our interdisciplinary graduate assistant Dr. Rachel Nibest who takes care of trip-related matters!
Instructors: Dr. Enit Steiner, University of Lausanne; Prof. Simon Bainbridge, Lancaster University
